Dr Yeralan will give a series of talks on "The Art of Programming." The talk series is being organised by the METU Physics Group. The talks are free, of course, but the space is limited. More information about the talks and to register , please visit their website (http://www.fiziktoplulugu.org/). First Meeting Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 5:30 PM (17:30), Cavid Erginsoy Seminar Hall, METU. Summary The Art of Programming (tAoP) is a series of presentations and open discussions on information technologies (IT) – but with a twist. As the name implies, its primary aim is to provide background and insights to those who would like to be out-of-the-ordinary software developers. However, tAoP is not about a particular language, or particular operating system. Rather, it is about the philosophy, culture, technology, and business side of IT. It is not about any given technique, or formula, but rather about what makes IT tick, its various schools of thought and approaches. It is not about what you would expect in a typical computer science curriculum. It is an expose into the culmination of experiences and reflections, as reported by various past participants of the craft. The discussions are arranged in a pseudo open-ended fashion, where each meeting will focus on a somewhat distinct aspect of the subject. This arrangement, with some independence among the topics, is chosen to allow the participants to attend any meeting, without the need to have attended the previous discussions. Topics 1. From logic to computation 2. The technology of an electronic digital computer 3. Languages, abstractions, operating systems, and toolchains 4. The network, from protocols to synergy 5. Programming as a business: efficiency, quality, reliability, and profitability 6. Now that the boom is over, what next? |
